Examinations for Appointment of Teachers in Education
The New Appointment System in Education aims to select the most suitable Teachers for appointment in Education, on the basis of success in Written Examinations and, therefore, is based on qualitative and meritorious criteria.
The Examinations Service is responsible for the organization of the said Examinations which were first conducted in 2017 and since then take place in November every two years.
Pancyprian Access Examinations
The Pancyprian Access Examinations serve as entrance examinations for the public universities of Cyprus and Greece. In detail, the objective of the Pancyprian Examinations is as follows:
The award of the Access Certificate as well as the ranking grade per academic access framework to graduate students of Secondary Education.
The admission of the said students to the Public Higher Education Universities of Cyprus.
The promotion of the database with the students’ ranking points together with their declarations of preference to the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports for the distribution of places in the Public Universities of Greece.
It is clarified that the Access Certificate and the candidates’ ranking are only valid for the year the candidates participated in the Pancyprian Access Examinations, based on which the above are granted.
The Examinations Service hold the responsibility for the organization of the Pancyprian Access Examinations which are conducted in June every academic year.
Examinations for Fine Arts Schools/Departments in Greece and Cyprus
The Examinations Service organises the Examinations for Fine Arts Schools/Departments of Greece which fall under the University Departments with a special access system. The Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports offers each year, and may continue to offer, several places in the public Schools/Departments of Fine Arts operating in Greece. Specifically, positions may be offered for the Athens School of Fine Arts, the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the University of Thessaloniki, the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the University of Western Macedonia and the Department of Visual Arts and Art Sciences of the University of Ioannina. Information on application dates, exam dates and other details are announced every year in the month of July via the website of the Examinations Service.
Also, the Examinations Service organizes the exams for admission to the Department of Fine Arts of the Cyprus University of Technology (TEPAK). Information on application dates, exam dates and other details are announced every year in the month of May via the website of the Examinations Service.
Examinations for Appointment in the Public Sector
The aim of these examinations is the award of the “Certificate of Success”, required for employment in the public sector (valid only for the year that follows the examinations). Examinations for Appointment in the Public Sector are conducted according to the Legislation of Evaluation for Appointment in the Public Sector (1998 to 2021) for the following salary scales.
A2-5-7 and for which a high school diploma or a diploma of a three-year post-secondary course is required as a basic qualification.
A8-10-11 for which a university degree or equivalent qualification is required as a basic qualification.
Concerning these exams, the Examinations Service has the responsibility for their organization, paper/s writing, invigilation, as well as the marking procedure, whilst Public Service Commission has the responsibility for the announcement of the results.
Examinations for employment in public and semi-public organisations, in Police Force and in municipalities
The Examinations Service conducts examinations for vacancies, in several employment scales, announced by public and semi-public organisations, the Police Force, the Fire Department, the municipalities, etc. The examinations’ subjects include Greek, English, Mathematics, Topics of General Knowledge and a special subject related to the duties of the position. Such examinations are conducted, upon request, throughout the year.
Greek Language Certification Exams
The Greek Language Certification Exams for various levels of Greek language, which were conducted by the Examinations Service of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, after the signing in 2022 of a Memorandum of Understanding in the Field of Greek Studies between the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and the Greek Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, are replaced by the "Greek Proficiency Certification Exams" conducted by the Greek Language Center of the Hellenic Republic during the month of May each year. The levels offered are the following:
A1 (for children 8-12 years old) - Elementary Knowledge
A1 (for teenagers and adults) - Elementary Knowledge
A2 - Basic Knowledge
B1 - Moderate Knowledge
B2 - Good Knowledge
C1 - Very Good Knowledge
C2 - Excellent Knowledge
The Examinations Service is responsible for the organization, coordination, and the implementation of the Greek Language Center exam in Cyprus. It should be noted that the formation of the exam paper as well as the marking procedure and the issuance of the official certificates is fulfilled by the Greek Language Center.

Examinations of Sufficient Knowledge of Basic Elements of the Contemporary Political and Social Reality of Cyprus for Third Country Nationals who are interested in the granting of long-term resident status in the Republic of Cyprus or naturalizations
The Examinations Service organizes the aforementioned exam twice a year.
General information about the exam:
The 45-minute exam includes multiple-choice questions. The topics arise from the exam material determined for the exam and announced together with the announcement of the exam date at the end of each year. The language of the exam is Greek.
Candidates submit their applications only online through JCC Smart: https://www.jccsmart.com/e-bill/invoices/7320/pay after paying the exam fees.
English Language Certification Exams
The Examinations Service of the Cyprus Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth organizes English Language Proficiency Exams. English Language Exams are conducted three times per year and the exams schedule for each year is posted on the website of the Examinations Service.
The levels offered are the following:
B2 - Good Knowledge
C1 - Very Good Knowledge
C2 - Excellent Knowledge

Greek and English Typing and Greek Shorthand Examinations
The purpose of the Greek/English Typing and Greek Shorthand Exams are as follows:
The evaluation of the candidates, in accordance with the Provisions governing the Greek and English Typing and Greek Shorthand Examinations:
in the ability to type texts with the necessary speed
in the ability to stenographically capture and condense texts
Successful candidates are awarded a certificate of success which is required by schemes of service for various positions, both in the public and private sectors.

The Greek Typing/Shorthand exams are conducted twice per year, in April or May and in September or October. The English Typing exams are conducted once per year in April or May. The exact dates are posted on the website of the Examinations Service.
Examinations for Sword Translators (in collaboration with the Press and Information Center)
The Examinations Service is responsible for the Examinations for Sword Translators, according to the 2019 Law on Registration and Regulation of Sworn Translation Services [Law 45(I)/2019].
The first round of exams were conducted in 2019 and since then the exams take place every two years.
