OFFICE OF CIVIL DEFENCE, HEALTH AND SAFETY




Introduction

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth is committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe working and learning environment for all its employees, students and any other people who may be affected by its activities.

Civil Defense

The Office of Civil Defense, Health and Safety, Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. was set up in 1997 on the recommendation of the Ministry of Interior's Civil Defense Administration. The Civil Defense Office main task involves setting up, implementing, monitoring and continuously improving appropriate measures for students, school staff and other workers in educational premises, in response to emergencies such as natural disasters e.g. earthquakes or man- made disasters e.g. fires in school premises.

Health and Safety

The Office of Civil Defense, Health and Safety, Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. mission is to assist the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sport and Youth to maintain a safe and healthy working and learning environment healthy and safe working environment for all its employees, students and any other people who may be affected by its activities.

The Office of Civil Defense, Health and Safety, Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. health and safety main objectives include:

  • To provide consultation to the Ministry regarding all health and safety issues and the relevant legislation
  • To promote a positive health and safety culture
  • To maintain an occupational health and safety management system
  • To provide guidance to all school units towards implementing all appropriate health and safety measures for students, school staff and other workers in their premises.
  • To provide health and safety training
  • To provide first aid training
  • To adopt a risk management approach to manage health and safety risks
  • To provide safe methods of work
  • To provide consultation on matters related to health and safety
  • To monitor emergency procedures and drills
  • To perform workplace inspections
  • To perform serious incidents or accidents investigation
  • To provide safe access arrangements
  • To comply with the relevant laws, codes of practice and standards

The Office of Civil Defense, Health and Safety, Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. to achieve its objectives, works closely with other departments in the Ministry of Education, Culture Sport and Youth, the educational units and other bodies such as the School Boards, the Medical and Public Health Services of the Ministry of Health and the Department of Labour Inspection of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance.

Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. (Central Committee for the Control of School Canteens)

The Office ïf Civil Defense, Health and Safety, Ê.Å.Ó.Ê. acts as a supervisory body within the competence of Central Committee for the Control of School Canteens - Ê.Å.Ó.Ê.
